Baccarat Rules and Object of the Game

Baccarat is a very old card game, and just as all ancient entertainments it is absolutely straightforward and simple. The object of Baccarat is to place your bet on the winning hand that will get a point total closest to number 9.

Card Value in Baccarat

· All face cards (Jack, Queen, and King) and 10-value cards are worth 0 points;

· All Aces count as 1 point;

· Cards 2 through 9 are worth their face value (i.e. a 2 is worth 2 points; a 5 is worth 5 points etc.);

· If the value of all your cards in the hand is higher than ten, you subtract 10. For example, if you have a 5 and a 7, your hand totals 2 points after subtracting 10. The best hand is having the total of 9 with your first 2 cards. The total of 8 is a good result, too because it also counts as a natural hand.

There are always two hands in Baccarat game - the hand of the Banker and the hand of the player. Both participants are dealt two cards, and depending on the value of the hand, they might be dealt a third card in either case. Your task as a player is to make a bet on the banker's hand, the player's hand, or a push (meaning that the two hands are tied).

Baccarat odds

Baccarrt odds are traditionally low. If you choose to bet on the player, the house edge is only 1.36%. If you choose to bet on the banker the house edge is even lower - 1.17%.

Baccarat Table Layout

Each player has to remember how to deals with 3 areas of Baccarat table to bet at -  "Banker", "Player" or "Tie".

Baccarat Game Payouts

Baccarat payouts are very simple, too. If you bet on Player's hand and win your payout is 1:1. If you bet on Banker’s hand and win your payout is 1:1 as well but the casino takes 5% commission on this type of outcome. If you bet on a Tie and win, your payout is 8 to 1. The minimal Baccarat bet is only one dollar and the maximal bet is $500.

General Baccarat Rules

Baccarat game starts when the dealer gives out 4 cards: two for the Banker and two for the Player. In case that the total of either or both hands equals 9 or 8, no cards are dealt anymore. Sometimes both sides have the same point total, in this case it is called a tie. If the hand of the Banker or the Player is too small to be “natural” and tie does not happen, another card can be dealt under certain rules:

· If the Banker’s initial hand totals to 0, 1 or 2 – your Banker can take one more card.

· If the Banker’s initial hand totals 3, and the player gets his 3rd card before the dealer and this card can be any card but 8; the Banker hits.

· If the Banker’s initial hand is 4 and Player's 3rd card is any number but 1, 8, 9, or 0, then the Banker gets the third card.

· If the Banker’s initial hand equals 5 and the Player gets a 4, 5, 6 or 7, the Banker hits.

· If the Banker’s initial hand is equal 6, and the 3rd card of the player is 6 or 7, the Banker hits.

· If the Banker’s initial hand is 7 or greater, the Banker must stand.

· If Player's initial hand is 6 or more, the player should stand without getting any additional cards.

· If Player’s initial hand is 5 or less, the Player must take another card.
