Craps: the Game Basics


Craps is traditionally played at a special table. Here you will find two dice that have a total of 36 different possible combinations. There are only eleven numbers that can be rolled with those combinations (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12). The every round of the game starts with placing the initial bets. Pass Line Bet

A "Pass Line Bet" is the most vital bet in Craps. You will see almost every player at the table making it. Pass Line Bet is very simple - you place your chips on the table on the Pass Line bar. Remember that this pass line bet must be made before the shooter has established his/her point! Pass Line is an even-money bet. It wins if the dice land on 7 or 11 on the Come Out Roll. Pass line bet looses if the dice land on 2, 3 or 12.


Don’t Pass Line Bet

Don’t pass Line Bet should be made before the shooter's first roll, too. You win if the dice roll shows 2 or 3 and you lose if the dice roll shows 7 or 11; if the shooter rolls a 12 your bet is a tie. To make this bet online place your chips in the box marked "Don't Pass" on the craps table.


Other Types of Craps Bets


There are many other craps bets other than Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line. They are called proposition bets and are usually found in the center of a craps table. These bets have a higher house advantage, but if you are lucky enough to win, it is your perfect to make money. Come and Don’t Come Bets

Come and Don’t Come bets are placed after the initial roll of the dice after the Pass Line was determined. Come bets win if 7 or 11 are rolled, the bet loses if 2 or 3 are rolled. Attention: if a point number is rolled, your bet is moved onto that number, if the point is rolled before a 7your bet wins. Don’t Come Bets are the opposite. If you have 2 or 3, you win; if you have 7 or 11 you lose. If a point is rolled then Don’t Come bets win on condition that a 7 is being rolled before the point.


Place Bets

Place bets are made after the point of the round is determined. Place Win Bet is a bet where gamblers select a specific number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) that will hit before a 7. Place Lose Bet is a bet where gamblers select a specific number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) that will hit after a 7. The payoffs for the Place Bets differ greatly. Depending on the number you bet on, you will be paid 9:5 (if you select 4 or 10); 7:5 (if you select 5 or 9), or 7:6 (if you select 6 or 8).


Field Bets

These bets are good for a single dice roll. You can bet on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12 and if any number is thrown, then you win. If you see 5, 6, 7 and 8 you lose your bet. Field Bets have the following payouts: 2 pays double (2:1) and 12 pays 3:1. Other winning field bets are paid even (1:1).


Odds Bet

This additional bet is made on a Pass, Don't Pass, Come or Don't Come bet that you have already placed. 'Odds' can only be made after the point of the round has been established. Odds bet is paid out at the correct odds.


Big 6 and Big 8 Bets

These bets are also one-roll bets that can be placed at any dice roll; they win if 6 or 8 appear before 7. Big 6 and Big 8 are even bets (the payout is 1:1).


Aces or Boxcars are bets that win if 2 or 12 are rolled (the payout is 30:1).

Hardways are bets that are made on a "double" to hit before a 7.

Any Craps are bets that win if 2, 3 or 12 are rolled (the payout is 8:1).

Any Seven are bets that win if 7 is rolled out (the payout is 5:1).

Eleven wins if 11 is rolled (the payout is 16:1).

Ace Duece wins if 3 is rolled (the payout is 16:1).

Horn Bet is the bet on 2, 3, 11 and 12 at one time. It wins if one of these numbers is thrown. Payouts are different depending on the number that was rolled. Other 3 bets are lost.
